YMCA programs emphasize Christian values and character development such as
honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility. The Burlington County
YMCA's competitive swim program gives participants safe, fun-filled
opportunities to develop physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.
Swimmers also learn important life skills such as self-confidence,
friendship, teamwork and sportsmanship. Each swimmer learns how to
become a responsible member of a successful team.
The Burlington County YMCA Swim
Team's objective is to enable each swimmer to reach his or her competitive
potential. Swimmers are encouraged to participate in selected swim
meets so that each swimmer can enjoy some level of success. The team
competes in three primary type of meets:
1. YMCA Dual Meets (as part of
the South Jersey Swim League)
2. Invitational Swim Meets
(based upon skill level)
3. USA Swimming Meets (swimming
against swimmers of equal ability)
More experienced swimmers can
participate at Regional Championships, the Capital Classic in Raleigh, NC,
the Winterfest at the University of Maryland and at the YMCA National
Championships in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. These unique competitions
draw participants from across the country and celebrate the goals and
mission of the YMCA through teamwork and sportsmanship.
For the youngest swimmers, in
addition to some of the aforementioned meets, there is the YMCA NJ 8&U
Championships. Swimmers can compete against YMCA teams throughout the
state and can participate in up to three individual events in the 6&U, 7, or
8 year old age groups along with the relays. The 8&Us can also
participate in some of the local mini-meets throughout the swim year.
The Family Y of Burlington
County is a state of the art facility which opened in June of '91. Our
YMCA features a modern and well maintained fitness center, free-weights
room, and indoor track that provide the opportunity for swimmers to reach
their full potential.
