Bill Sepich - National YMCA Coach of the Year

Each year, the National YMCA Swimming & Diving Organization selects an individual to honor as their Coach of the Year.  The committee considers the testaments of team and family members. While accomplishments in the pool are a part of the selection process, the more important aspects are how the coach integrates the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility into the program; how the team helps its community; and how the coach believes in these young children and serves as a role model for them.  The banners hanging at our pool are well deserved but the joy and sense of accomplishment in a swimmer's face when they achieve something they didn't think was possible is what drives our coach and is why each and every member of the Hurricane Family is so very proud of this honor.

Go Canes!

Meet News

(4/7/08) Here's a link to see real time results from the YNATS.  This link has video of all of the finals, including the 400 Free relay team of Paul Maneri, Jimmy Coleman, Dan Dick, and Jason Mattingly knocking a second and a half off last year's record (Mattingly, Thomas, Maneri, and Graham) with a time of 3:09.51.  Jason then lowered his 100 Free record with a new time of 46.68.  Cathy Howard broke her own record in the 1000 Free by 4 seconds with a time of 10:32.89.  Well done, Canes!

(4/1/08) We have been away on Easter Break and were a little slack in updating the records book after the JOs.  Brittany Parsons had another awesome weekend, setting five Canes records once again.  She lowered her own records in the 200 Free, 100 IM, and the 50 Breast.  She also bested Sam Sides 2004 marks in the 100 Fly and 100 Free with record times of 1:13.82 and 1:03.02, respectively. That is totally excellent, Brittany!

(3/26/08) The psyche sheet for the YMCA Nationals can be seen here.

(3/10/08) NJ YMCA State Championship results have been posted here. Several Canes records fell and hopefully, we didn't miss any. Brittany Parsons won the 10&U Girls 50 and 100 Breast and broke her own Canes records in those races as well as the 100 IM and 200 Free.  She also bested Sophie Kenuk's 200 IM record from 2001 by 3 seconds with a time of 2:36.73.  Two 1sts, three 2nds, a 3rd, a 4th, and 5 Canes records.  Totally awesome, Brittany.  Henry Blosfelds had a great Sunday as he won the 11-12 Boys 50 Free with a time of 23.89, knocking Eric Stoor's 2006 mark off the books and setting a meet record in the process.  Will Van Fossen broke Tyler Patrick's record in the 11-12 Boys 200 Back with a time of 2:22,27.  Well done, Canes!

(3/2/08) The NJ High School Individual Championships results can be seen here.

(2/18/08) The NJ YMCA Silver Championship results will be posted here within the next week.

(2/11/08) The Canes won the South Jersey Swim League Championships! Full meet results can be found here.

(2/6/08) NJ YMCA 8&U Championship results can be found here.  Great swims, Canes!

(2/1/08) If you haven't created a swimmer account at USA Swimming, it's a good idea and it's free.  USA Swimming has a database that includes all of the swimmer's times going back several years and this account allows you to log on quickly and see all of the individual and relay times sliced and diced any which way.  Also, you'll get e-mails when the database has been updated with new meets.  The link to register is here.  You'll need to create a username while the name is the swimmer's name as it's spelled at meets.

(2/1/08) The NJ YMCA Silver Championship Meet Notice is here and the qualifying times are here.  Silver times are on the second page, the NJ YMCA States times are on the first page.  "B" times mean that you can submit an entry for the event and if not enough people have signed up, you will swim.  If the event is full, you will need the faster qualifying time to swim.  Basically, the YMCA higher-ups estimate where the qualifying bar should be set and the "B" times give them a little margin for error.

(1/28/08) The Canes did quite well at the Elite Meet with almost all of our participants qualifying for a final.  Brittany Parsons set the Canes 9-10 record in the 100 IM with a time of 1:13.88, breaking Ellen Hassinger's record from 2002.  Henry Blosfelds also broke the 100 IM record, besting Andrew Wright's 2005 11-12 record by two seconds with a new time of 1:02.47.  In addition, Henry broke Eric Stoor's mark in the 11-12 50 Fly with a time of 27.00.  Brittany also lowered her own records in the 200 Free and 100 Breast with new times of 2:23.55 and 1:20.13 respectively.  Good job, Canes!

(1/24/08) The League Championship Meet (Feb 9-10) Notice is here.

(1/21/08) The South Jersey Coaches Invitational results for the high school swimmers can be found here.

(1/19/08) The results from the Winter Blizzard Meet can be found here.  We missed a record set at that meet.  Brittany Parsons broke Claire Wixted's 9-10 Girls 50 Breast record with a time of 36.65.  Awesome swim, Brittany!

(1/16/08) The Mid Atlantic Elite Meet is being held at GCIT on Jan 25-27.  Psych sheets can be found here.

(1/14/08) The 8&U YMCA Championship info can be found here.  The meet is Sunday, Feb 3rd with the boys in the morning and the girls in the afternoon.  It runs like clockwork so you should be fine for any Super Bowl party and without the Eagles, who cares except for those of us jumping on the Pats bandwagon.

(1/8/08) The New Jersey YMCA State Championship in March is now going to be held in Pennsylvania at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.  More details and hotel information will be coming soon.
