November 15th 2004

Hello Cane Family

Are you all ready for a big week ahead in Hurricane Land? Lots of things going on this week the most important of which is our dual meet with Vineland on Saturday. This may prove to be our biggest test of the season so we all need to be ready for the challenge.

The candle sale is in full swing for the kids going to North Carolina so please be helpful in purchasing these great smelling candles that brighten your house during the holiday season. You will see the list of kids that are going posted on the website so you can call or be called to help in this fund raiser.

We are also having a hoagie sale this weekend. Pre-order your hoagie from one of the same kids so you are sure of having a great dinner after the meet. We make the best hoagies around and the price can't be beat.

I am still waiting for our team suits to arrive. The order is coming directly from Speedo as the supplier did not have enough in stock. I am really pushing them hard to have them this week. As soon as they arrive I will let you know.

There is a list posted on the website of what we are asking people to bring to stock the snack bar for the meet. Please read this and help Janis and her snack bar committee.

Finally two very important bits of news. First of which is that the deadline to enter the NJ State Meet has been extended to Friday of this week. It is very important that you get registered for this meet so DON'T DELAY, DO IT TODAY!!

The second thing is equally important. We went down to Pleasantville on Saturday and did a great job. The coaches and I were very impressed with how we all swam. The kids did a great job and really took it to them. The final score was 455-115. What created somewhat of a cloud over the victory was the fact that a good number of people told me on Thursday and even as late as Friday that they would not be there. PLEASE adhere to the fact that I must know if someone will not swim by Tuesday evening before the meet. I spend most of the day Wednesday making up the meet. When as little as one person has to be taken out of the meet, it changes the entire age group. In fairness to everyone and to increase the chance for as many kids to swim as many events as possible, please remember that Tuesday evening deadline.

Thanks for all your help in making HURRICANE SWIMMING the best team on the planet. Get your Red and Black attire out, dust off the pom-poms, pull out the shakers and lets get ready to make Vineland number 80 in a row!!

Hello Cane Family

I hope you all had a nice Halloween and now that we are into November I have a few announcements and reminders. The first of which has to do with Germantown this coming weekend. All 9-10 and 15-18 swimmers should be on the deck at 7:30am on both Saturday and Sunday. All 11-12 and 13-14 swimmers should be on deck both days at 12:00pm. The coaches and I are looking for good early season times from everyone.

Most of our senior swimmers swam in the Fall Classic meet on Oct 23-24. As a group I was happy with thier times and effort. The longer events we did well in as expected since most of our training has been aerobic based so far. The sprints were good and will get better as the training focus moves to add more anaerobic work.

We have two dual meets this month. The first is at Plesantville on Nov 13 and the second will be against one of the best teams in the league at home versus Vineland on Nov 20. I am looking forward to good meets from both teams and we will really have to be ready for the Vineland squad which gives us a good meet every year. EVERY EFFORT SHOULD BE MADE TO ATTEND THE MEETS ESPECIALLY VINELAND. If for some reason your kids can not swim please email Bill by the Monday before the meet.

The athletes going to North Carolina the first week in December will be raising money for themselves by way of a Candle Sale as well as a Hogie Sale. The candles can be purchesed at any time from one of those kids and will be here before Christmas. They are a great gift as well as a great way to put that Holiday smell into your house! The Hoagie Sale will be the day of the Vineland meet. Pre-orders will be taken to offset the swimmers account that you buy them from. Sales on the day of the meet will go to the Genaral NC fund. By the way, we make the absolute best hoagies you ever had so enjoy them while you can!

Finally, our website will be adding an SJSL (South Jersey Swim League) page to it soon. There you will find meet schedules and results as well as a league best times list. Lets make sure the CANE swimmers are all at the top of that list!

As we get closer to the Holidays I will send out any changes to the practice schedule. I thought that this would be enough info to swallow at once for the time being.

Go Canes!

Bill
